Common Skincare Mistakes and How To Fix Them
Sarah has been there and done it with skincare, having learnt from her skincare mistakes. Here she shares the common skincare mistakes and how to avoid them.
Common Skincare Mistakes and How To Fix Them (Don’t Worry We Have Made Them Too!)
When you were a teenager you had some form of acne right? We all did! But who else thought that when we were out of our twenties, we would magically have clear skin? Because I can assure you I did, however, I am now 23 and I still get spots, especially around the time of the month and when stressed. This is completely normal.
Did you know that the answer to all of your skincare problems might actually be really easy to solve and may be down to you simply washing your face the wrong way? I know what you’re thinking, “What?! It can’t be that hard” but there is a lot more to it than we first might have thought. Today we will help you figure out all of the most common skincare mistakes you might be making and how to fix them.
1. Over Exfoliating
Exfoliating is a crucial part of any skincare routine, but over exfoliating can actually do more damage than good to your skin by drying it out and taking away any natural oils. This will then lead to inflammation, which no one wants! You should exfoliate gently and once daily with mild agents which contain ingredients such as lactic acid or if you would like something to suit your lifestyle a bit more, a weekly peel or mask, such as PERL Cosmetics’, is perfect.
2. Skipping Daily Sunscreen
It is so important for your skin to put on sunscreen everyday (Yes! Even when it’s cloudy). Exposure to the sun can cause sunspots, damage your skin and also in extreme cases lead to cancer. According to experts it is important to put on SPF daily - this can be found in some moisturisers too which makes it easier to pop into your daily routine.
3. Going to Bed with Your Make Up On
This sounds like a really obvious tip, but we are all guilty of coming in from a night out and just going straight to sleep. This on occasion is absolutely fine, however, it is so important not to make it a habit. Not removing your make-up on a night out can clog your pores and make them look larger and once your collagen levels decline, the pores won’t snap back as easily once they have been enlarged. So, if you can, always take your make-up off before going to bed.
4. Using Dirty Makeup Brushes
We know that cleaning your makeup brushes can take a lot of time and effort, but it will be worth it, we promise! If you want to speed up the process you could buy a brush cleaner. Keeping your brushes clean everyday will ensure no dirt and old makeup will be transferred and build up on your face.
5. A Bad Diet
Experts have said that what is good for the heart is good for the skin! Make sure there is some colour on your plate - the more colours you eat the better. We know how easy it is to grab a chocolate bar from the fridge or eat an ice cream on a hot day and as a treat this is completely fine (We love a treat or two too!) but the sugar can harm your skin, so just be aware!
We hope these tips were useful, and if you make one change let it be adding PERL Cosmetics’ clay mask into your weekly routine!
